Sophiatown Community Psychological Services


Sophiatown Community Psychological Services is an organization which offers counselling and other forms of psycho-social support to individuals, families, groups, and communities in distress.

Our Mission

  • Develop and implement psycho-social support services which are meaningful and appropriate to the economic, social and cultural context of the people we serve.
  • Build and strengthen networks of support for vulnerable individuals and families in communities.
  • Work with others towards social justice and constructive social change

 

People of all ages come to us with a range of problems which affect their emotional well-being and their ability to cope with the demands of everyday living. These include:

  • Traumatic stress related to criminal violence, domestic and/or gender violence
  • Traumatic stress related to war, displacement and/or xenophobia
  • Bereavement
  • Family problems
  • Marriage and relationship difficulties
  • Difficulties in adjusting to changed life circumstances as a result of death, loss of income, displacement and the like
  • Emotional and/or behavioural problems in children and adolescents
  • Depression and/or anxiety
  • Unresolved issues related to traumatic experiences in childhood

 

We have offices in Westdene and Bertrams and also offer counselling services in Noordgesig, Mzimhlophe, Riverlea and Northriding.
